Surgical oncology is one of the three most common cancer treatment specialties. Our fellowship-trained surgeons specialize in treating various types of cancer through surgical management, or the removal of cancerous masses and affected surrounding tissue. These surgical experts work in conjunction with CARTI physicians who represent the other treatment modalities to coordinate the most thorough and comprehensive cancer care available.
Our surgical oncologists specialize in the following:
- Breast Cancer: Fellowship-trained breast oncologic surgeons Dr. Jerri Fant and Dr. Yara Robertson specialize in surgical options for diagnosing, treating and relieving symptoms of breast cancer.
- Complex Surgical Oncology: Fellowship-trained complex surgical oncologist Dr. J. Camilo Barreto has extensive experience in the treatment of patients with complex cancers of the digestive tract, skin and soft tissues.
- Head and Neck Cancer: Fellowship-trained head and neck oncologic surgeons Dr. Scott Stern and Dr. John Sims specialize in surgical management of both benign and cancerous tumors of the head and neck. Dr. Sims is one of only two head and neck surgeons in the state who can perform microvascular reconstructive surgery and transoral robotic surgery.
