CARTI Earns Prestigious Accreditation

to Earn Accreditation from American College of Radiology
Six Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute (CARTI) facilities recently earned three-year terms of accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR), distinguishing them as the only radiation therapy centers in Arkansas to have received the prestigious certification which is granted by the national organization.
Facilities earning ACR accreditation include: CARTI/Baptist and CARTI/St. Vincent, in Little Rock; CARTI/Conway; CARTI/Mountain Home; CARTI/North Little Rock; and CARTI/Searcy.
“We are truly honored to have received accreditation from the ACR,” said Jan Burford, CARTI president and chief executive officer. “It is our mission at CARTI to provide and promote the finest quality of radiation therapy available to our patients, a goal that is shared and exemplified by the ACR’s commitment to recognizing and acknowledging leaders in the field.”
“ACR accreditation is one more testament to the patients we serve that when they come to CARTI, they are receiving the finest radiation therapy available to them, not just within Arkansas, but also on a national level,” said Burford.
Burford said that the newly-awarded ACR accreditation is further assurance to prospective patients and physicians that the treatment available to them in their own communities is equal to that provided anywhere in Arkansas.
“At CARTI, we pride ourselves that—except in very isolated cases—patients do not have to travel to Little Rock for their radiation therapy and treatment,” said Burford. “Every patient, regardless of which CARTI facility he or she may be receiving treatment at throughout the state, is provided access to state-of-the-art equipment and technologies and the same high standards of care.”
To earn ACR accreditation, applicants undergo an intensive evaluation process led by board-certified physicians and medical physicists. Experts in their respective fields, evaluators examine personnel qualifications and the level of facility equipment of applicant health care providers to submit a comprehensive report to the ACR. Based upon findings from the evaluation process, accreditation is awarded to facilities determined by peer-review to achieve the high practice standards of the ACR.
“By its very nature, the accreditation process is a very rigorous procedure,” said Burford. “Fortunately, CARTI has built a solid reputation by holding itself to its own high standards in providing the finest treatment and compassionate patient care. Our self-imposed standards are what prepared us to invite the ACR in to evaluate and assess the level of care we provide to the cancer patients we serve.”
“Receiving accreditation from the ACR not only justifies our reputation, but it also confirms for our patients and our referring physicians and other managed care organizations that they can have unconditional confidence that the treatment provided by CARTI has been deemed to be among the finest available in the entire nation,” said Burford.
Based in Reston, VA, the American College of Radiology is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services.

Auxiliary Group Names Ginger Beebe as CARTI Champion

Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe will be honored as the second recipient of the CARTI Champion Award in conjunction with the 33rd annual CARTI Auxiliary Festival of Trees scheduled for December 3-5 at the Statehouse Convention Center Ballroom in Little Rock.
Putting the ‘ART’ in CARTI

Visual art depicting the impressions of those whose lives have been touched by cancer diagnosis and treatment is currently being sought by the Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute (CARTI) for the 2010 edition of its annual desk calendar publication, “The Art of Survival.”
