Image Guided Radiation Therapy

As the the first in Arkansas to utilize IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy), CARTI is the most experienced provider in the state with this technology.

IGRT stands for Image Guided Radiation Therapy. It is the most advanced technology available allowing the treatment team to localize the treatment target every day. More accurate targeting allows CARTI to decrease the radiation dose to sensitive normal tissue, thus decreasing side effects and improving outcomes, while making sure the cancer gets the full treatment.

How does IGRT work?
When a patient undergoes radiation therapy for cancer treatment, the radiation oncologist must locate the tumor (or target) so the radiation can be directed to the area that needs treatment. IGRT enables the Radiation Oncologist to pinpoint the tumor site and make millimeter adjustments to the patient’s position automatically. The process takes about three to five minutes per patient making it a very practical solution for improving patient care.
What types of cancers are treated with IGRT?
Most cancers benefit from treatments that are more accurate and precise, including:
• Prostate cancer;
• Tumors of the brain, head and neck region;
• Cervical Cancer
• Rectal Cancer

Visit with your Radiation Oncologist at CARTI to determine if this treatment is right for you.
